The following is a podcast of a phone conversation with Michael Kirby that aired on January 20, 2022 in South Korea.
Michael Kirby chaired a UN Commission of Inquiry on North Korean human rights (2013-14). In January 2022, he was interviewed by William Y Kim of the Korean service of the Voice of America, USA. In the interview Mr Kirby outlines the responsibility of the international community and finding of the COI. Whilst talks with North Korea may have been a good initiative, the failure of recent American Presidents to emphasise the connection between servants of human rights and safeguarding peace and security.
