Brighton Secondary College is a large secondary school in the public school system of the State of Victoria. It is based in Brighton, in the city of Melbourne.

The College is divided into four Houses. After a process of consultation with staff, students and the community, the College has decided to name one of the Houses after The Honourable Michael Kirby AC CMG, past Justice of the High Court of Australia and advocate for equality and human dignity for all people. In the past,  the names attached to the other Houses are of distinguished Victorian figures, long since deceased. Michael Kirby was happy and relieved that he was not expected to die in order to be honoured in this way. The colour of the House that will bear the Kirby name is purple. This is, historically, a distinguished colour and often associated with LGBTIQ equality, just as Michael Kirby is in contemporary Australia ( ‘’Wear It Purple Day’’)

On 15 September 2021, at Brighton Secondary College, Michael Kirby gave an address by AVL to staff and students, announcing his arrival as Kirby House patron.
