The Service commemorated the outstanding work of Professor James Crawford an alumnus of the University of Adelaide; a Commissioner of the Australian Law Reform Commission; a Professor of Law and Dean of Law at the University of Sydney; a Professor of Law at University of Oxford; and Whewell Professor of International Law and Dean of the Law School at Cambridge University. In 2015 he was elected a Judge of the International Court of Justice at The Hague. However, he died in 2021. In the presence of his family and colleagues, he was honoured in a memorial event at the Great Hall at the University of Sydney on 26 July 2022. Amongst colleagues who paid him honour was the Hon. Michael Kirby, his colleague and friend from ALRC days.
