The podcast is on the topic of “Introduction to Corporations Law, which was recorded on 4 March 2022, with the Hon. Michael Kirby in conversation with Professor Andrew Clarke of Victoria University School of Law.

In this podcast, Michael Kirby describes the history of law controlling commercial operation and partnerships and the way that law expanded the invention of the limited liability corporation. This arose out of visions in England and France for highly risky and speculative investment in distant ports and colonies. It explains the need for regulation of the conduct of directors, officers and shareholders of corporations. And the importance of avoiding overregulation which could “kill the goose that lays the golden egg” of risk taking, central to the economy.
