For more than 10 years, the ANU College of Law has sponsored the Michael Kirby Lecture in International Law. On 30 June 2022, the lecture was given by Professor Anne Orford who is Michael Kirby Professor of International Law at the University of Melbourne. He lecture addressed contemporary issues of intellectual property law (patents) as it applies to treatment of people in developing countries infected with the HIV and COVID viruses. In the course of her lecture, she mentions work of Michael Kirby for the UN in this regard.
