On 10 December 2023, the world celebrated the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of the United Nations.  This occurred at the third session of the General Assembly convened in Paris on 10 December 1948.  The Chairman of the third committee of the General Assembly was an Australian politician and Minister for External Affairs, Dr Herbert Vere Evatt.  It was Evatt who pronounced that the UDHR had been adopted by the nations of the world gathered in Paris.  He said it would become “a Magna Carta of mankind”.
